Organization Overview / Background

The Hamilton Family Health Team (HFHT) is the largest Health Team in the province. There are 166 family doctors and over 250 other health care workers in the Hamilton Family Health Team which serves more than 250,000 people across the City of Hamilton.  In addition to providing one-on-one care, the Hamilton Family Health Team offers many group-based health programs, working with many other organizations in the City of Hamilton to provide care. Hamilton FHT provides comprehensive primary health care through interprofessional teams comprising Family Physicians, Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Pharmacists, Dietitians and Physiotherapists. HFHT has an annual operating budget of $25M, has a total staffing complement of 300 and provides services on 90 sites across the City of Hamilton.


Position / Responsibilities / Requirements

Reporting to the Executive Director and being a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Business Manager is responsible for the delivery of business planning, financial controllership, contract administration and procurement and manages finance and payroll staff. The Business Manager leads the development of short and long-range strategic business planning; exercises financial controllership by developing, implementing and maintaining financial procedures and standards; manages procurement, of goods and services, contracts and leases; acts as the primary contact for financial management/performance measurement and reporting with the Ministry of Health, Family Practices and Community Partners.  As a member of the senior leadership team, the Business Manager participates in the planning, administration and operation of the HFHT and works in partnership with strategic partners across the healthcare community and be the advocate. The Business Manager is also a champion and resource for special projects and programs that will achieve the organization’s vision of “A Healthier Hamilton."

As a motivational and inclusive leader, the Business Manager will participate in and add value to a cohesive and unified leadership team across the HFHT and bring highly visible leadership credentials and exceptional communication and relationship building skills to the role. As a financial controller and business strategist, the Business Manager will ensure the most effective and efficient utilization of resources and the development and implementation of a sound financial management plan, which balances service delivery and funding requirements. The Business Manager will have a post-secondary education in business or finance or a combination of related educational and business and financial management experience and preferably hold a professional designation (e.g. CA, CPA, CMA). Work experience within an integrated healthcare delivery model or primary care environment is an asset but not essential. Above all, the Business Manager will be an individual who has a passion for HFHT’s mission to provide excellent, comprehensive and collaborative primary health care.
