It is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, and Brampton’s growth represents 90.2% of the net population growth within the Region of Peel (between 2016 and 2021). The City of Brampton is a diverse community with 234 cultures speaking 115 languages. It is also one of Canada’s youngest cities. The City is located northwest of Toronto, within close proximity to Toronto Pearson International Airport. It is home to more than 75,000 businesses, the City’s major business clusters include manufacturing, retail and wholesale trade.

Position / Responsibilities / Requirements

The City of Brampton is recruiting a Director of Building & Chief Building Official who diligently carries out the mandated responsibilities under the Building Code Act. This includes formulating operational policies, supervising the implementation of the Act and its Regulations, and exercising the assigned powers and duties within the jurisdiction. All duties are executed with a strong sense of leadership and integrity.

The ideal candidate has a post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering or related field with 8-10 years of progressive experience in a building and enforcement environment. The candidate will have experience in budget preparation and monitoring, knowledge of municipal building by-laws, exceptional communication skills along with superior report writing and project management skills.

The ideal candidate should have successful completion of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing Provincial qualification examinations for: Legal Process, House, Small Buildings, Large Buildings and Building Structural, and Building Services as an asset.
