YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is one of the largest organizations in the Y family in Canada serving children, youth and families in Simcoe County and the Districts of Muskoka and Parry Sound. The corporate office is in Barrie, and the organization operates through 8 branches in Barrie, Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound, and Wasaga Beach. YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is a registered charitable organization that offers a very diverse range of programs and services including health, fitness, aquatics, community services (employment resources centres, youth services, immigrant services), conferencing (Geneva Park- Ramara Township) and overnight camping (Camp Kitchikewana) as well as day camps in conjunction with community partners. YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka also runs 75 child care centres offering both child care and before and after school care across the communities served.

Simcoe/Muskoka YMCA is dedicated to the growth of all persons in spirit, mind, and body, and to their sense of belonging to each other and the global community. It seeks to strengthen families, inspire everyone to reach their full potential and improve the quality of health and wellness for children, youth, and families. Simcoe/Muskoka YMCA has a complement of over 1200 dedicated staff as well as many volunteers and active participants from the community and is required to generate an annual budget of more than $50M. The Strategic Plan 2021-2024 will encompass a bold vision of the future which will include the completion of a major capital development project to build a state-of the-art facility in Barrie. Planning is well underway, and construction will begin later in 2020.

 

Position / Responsibilities / Requirements

Following the decision of the current Chief Executive Officer to retire after an accomplished tenure of nine years, the Board is looking for an outstanding leader with a passion for making a difference in the lives of individuals and building healthy communities and having the ability to inspire this passion in others. A leader who will work collaboratively with funders and community partners to provide every individual in the communities served with opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. Reporting directly to an engaged Board of Directors and working closely with a strong leadership and management team and dedicated staff and volunteers, the CEO will be a visionary organizational leader and strategic community partner committed to service excellence, community partnership and helping everyone to achieve their best possible health and wellbeing, collectively improving the overall health of the communities the Y serves.

Ideally, the CEO will have at least 7-10 years of proven experience in a leadership capacity in a large public or private sector organization or in a complex not for profit or charitable sector enterprise. The CEO will hold a graduate degree, Master’s level preferred, in business, public or health administration, or another relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. As a visionary and inspirational leader with excellent interpersonal skills and a proficient team builder, the CEO will promote a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement across the organization. The CEO will demonstrate an understanding of leading an organization that embraces diversity and inclusion and is sensitive to regional cultural differences to support relevant and effective programs and delivery in different communities.
