Position / Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Operational Services, the Manager of Roads Operations is responsible for overseeing the daily operation and maintenance management of the Roads section; urban and rural roads, snow removal, traffic signs and pavement markings, and storm water management.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate has 10 years of experience in the infrastructure/roads sector, demonstrating professional growth, strategic decision-making, and deep industry knowledge as well as a minimum of 7 years of leadership experience, managing and mentoring staff including experience in performance management and progressive discipline, and identifying and implementing operational efficiencies. The ideal candidate must have experience handling union relationships, understanding collective agreements, and navigating labour relations as well as a strong knowledge of engineering principles, municipal infrastructure challenges, and providing technical guidance for a team. In addition, the ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, the ability to have difficult conversations, and the demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate large teams of up to 40 people, ensuring effective communication, delegation, and organization. They employ a participatory leadership approach that fosters collaboration, trust-building, and empowers decision-making. In addition, the ideal candidate has strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills to develop innovative solutions and address challenges with critical insight.
