Organization Name Town of Tillsonburg FHC
Industry Municipal Government
City Tillsonburg
Province/State Ontario [ON]
Country Canada [CA]
Title Chief Administrative Officer
Organization Overview / Background

Our agricultural heritage, made famous by Stompin’ Tom, is only part of our story. Major attractions in Tillsonburg include Annandale National Historic Site, the Station Arts Centre, and the widest main street in Ontario, Broadway. Turtlefest, the popular summer festival, brings thousands of people to our community for Father's Day weekend fun.

The area was settled in 1825 by George Tillson and other immigrants from Enfield, Massachusetts. A forge and sawmill were erected and roads built which led to the establishment of this community, originally called Dereham Forge, located on the Big Otter Creek.

In 1836 the village was renamed Tillsonburg in honour of its founder. It was also in this year that the main street, Broadway, was constructed to its full 100-foot (30 m) width. Because the village was predominantly a logging and wood product centre, Broadway was built to accommodate the turning of two horse drawn wagons. This street is now unique to Ontario and has become a benefit toward handling the pressures of modern-day traffic by providing for angled parking.

Today, Tillsonburg is a relaxed, family-friendly community known for its enterprising history, entrepreneurial spirit and rural work ethic. It serves a regional population approaching 125,000 people at the convergence of the tri-county area of Oxford, Elgin and Norfolk. The Town received a Provincial award for its new branding in 2017 and the values identified through that process – Connected. Enriched. Inspired – are becoming increasingly embedded in the culture of the corporation and the community.

Discover the joy of small-town living in close proximity of London and Kitchener. Housing costs are a fraction of the price you would pay in urban areas, and you will enjoy a more relaxed, comfortable lifestyle. Whether you have a full house or an empty nest, you'll find Tillsonburg is the perfect place to call home.
