The Township of Southgate is a local municipality in the southern part of Grey County near the centre of Southern Ontario, only 45 km north of the Greater Toronto Area and 125 km north of downtown Toronto, with a population of approximately 8,100. People are drawn to the Township of Southgate for its quaint rural charm and the sense of community that comes from knowing your neighbors and the people you do business with. The municipality is working to ensure that the amenities and infrastructure are in place for the rapid residential and commercial growth it is attracting, while still maintaining the small-town ambiance that Southgate is known for.

Position / Responsibilities / Requirements

The Township is recruiting an experienced planner with great political acumen, leadership and communication skills to be a Manager of Planning and Development. Reporting to the CAO, the Manager of Planning and Development supports the strategic growth of the Township through management of long-range development policies and plans, economic development initiatives and programs and development reviews. This position directs the operation of the Southgate Planning department and Economic Development department to help the Township achieve its goals, objectives and overall mandate.

You possess a University Degree in a related field (though Planning is preferred) and have at least 3 years of experience in land use planning and long-range planning, whether in the municipal/broader public sector or in the private sector. Membership in the Ontario Professional Planning Institute (OPPI) and being Registered Professional Planner (RPP) is also required. Knowledge of federal, provincial, county, and related agency’s changing by-laws as it relates to municipal government is essential for this role.
