Position / Responsibilities |
The Senior Development Planner is responsible for a full range of duties to help facilitate long term sustainable growth patterns, quality development and environmental integrity through the planning process, and ensuring that analysis of development applications reflect current and future priorities, objectives, initiatives, and policies of the Town, York Region, and the province. The Senior Development Planner project manages the processing and administration of a broad range of development applications under the Planning Act with an emphasis on those which may be complex, controversial, and high profile with multi-disciplinary issues and interests. Applications may include Official Plan Amendments, Zoning By-law Amendments, Plans of Subdivision, Site Plan Control, and Committee of Adjustment. The Senior Development Planner provides analysis and review of development applications in the context of the planning policy framework and provides a professional planning opinion and recommendations through reports and presentations to Council. This position is located within the Development Planning Division of the Development Services Department, and reports to the Manager of Development Planning. The work culture is supportive with collaboration opportunities across departments and divisions as we implement modernization, renewal, and other corporate projects and initiatives. This position is eligible to participate in the Town’s health and wellness benefits and flexible work arrangement program. In addition, the Civic Centre is located on the Recreation Outdoor Complex (ROC) campus and is within 1.5 kilometres of Lake Simcoe providing opportunities to enjoy the outdoor amenities before and after work and during breaks. |

Candidate Requirements |
The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree in Planning from a CIP-accredited program or equivalent as recognized by OPPI. Full RPP membership in good standing with OPPI and/or MCIP certification through the Professional Standards Board. Candidates actively working toward designation and able to obtain it within one year will also be considered. The ideal candidate will also have a minimum of four (4) years of professional planning experience in a municipal, public, or private sector consulting environment. Experience should include development review, policy interpretation, report writing, presentations to Council/Committees, and project management. Comprehensive experience with municipal planning and land development processes and legislation, particularly those related to subdivision and condominium control is required. Strong knowledge of knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act and related provincial legislation, with experience translating policy into clear recommendations and awareness of public and political sensitivities is also required. Strong communication skills and interpersonal and collaborative skills are highly desired in the ideal candidate for this role. |
