The Regional Municipality of Waterloo, located in Southwestern Ontario, consists of the Cities of Kitchener, Cambridge, and Waterloo (collectively called the Tri-Cities), and the townships of Wellesley, Woolwich, Wilmot, and North Dumfries. There are an estimated 575,000 people living in the Waterloo Region. Among the region's major private sector employers are Blackberry, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Sun Life Financial, Manulife Financial, Challenger Motor Freight, Home Hardware Head Office, Loblaw Companies Ltd. and Automation Tooling Systems (ATS). Major public sector employers include the Waterloo Region District School Board, Region of Waterloo, University of Waterloo, Grand River Hospital, Waterloo Catholic District School Board, City of Kitchener, St. Mary's General Hospital, Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Wilfrid Laurier University, Conestoga College and City of Waterloo.

Position / Responsibilities Summary

The Regional Municipality of Waterloo is seeking a new Director, Housing Services who directs the planning and delivery of housing and homelessness programs as per provincially mandated Service Manager Role, with an emphasis on the delivery of affordable housing and housing stability programs. These include, homelessness prevention outreach and supports, emergency shelter, and supportive housing, as well as new housing supply, and tenant management of regionally owned housing units. The new Director, Housing Services will develop housing and homelessness plans and strategies, coordinate stakeholder interests, and represents the Region with the senior levels of government.

Candidate Requirements

You are a proven, confident, proactive, dynamic leader, and a strategic thinker who has demonstrated success in a senior management capacity, especially within the scope of provisioning for Housing services. Your exceptional interpersonal skills have earned you a reputation for building a positive, accountable work culture and developing and inspiring strong management teams and staff. A model example of exceptional commitment to customer service, you set the standard for a division that strives to provide the highest quality of housing and homelessness programs to Waterloo citizens.

Having completed your University Education or a College Diploma, preferably in Planning, Social Services or equivalent, you also have a minimum of 8-10 years’ progressive management experience with at least 5 years in the Housing services capacity.

You possess a participative and collaborative leadership style, strong customer service focus and political acumen; along with exceptional interpersonal skills, excellent written communication skills and strong computer skills, combined with the ability to build and support teams as well as foster strong relationships with elected officials, external consultants and the construction and building community in general.
