The Hamilton Family Health Team (HFHT) is the largest Health Team in the province. HFHT has 166 family physicians and over 250 staff including interdisciplinary healthcare providers serving more than 250,000 people across the City of Hamilton. In addition to providing one-on-one care, the Hamilton Family Health Team offers many group-based health programs, working with many other organizations in the City of Hamilton to provide care. Hamilton FHT provides comprehensive primary health care through interprofessional teams comprising Family Physicians, Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Pharmacists, Dietitians and Physiotherapists. HFHT has an annual operating budget of $25M and provides services on 90 sites across the City of Hamilton.

Position / Responsibilities / Requirements

The Board is seeking to recruit a passionate and collaborative leader who will support the Board in implementing the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan for HFHT and provide administrative leadership and day-to-day management of the organization. Reporting directly to the Board and working closely with an active and engaged Board of Directors and a team of over 250 dedicated staff, the Chief Executive Officer will communicate both the substance and importance of the organization’s mission to the public, government and strategic partners across the healthcare community. The Chief Executive Officer will also play a key role in the continuing development of the Greater Hamilton Health Team (OHT) and serve as an advocate, champion and collaborative partner for primary care led integration of programs and services across the City of Hamilton.

The Chief Executive Officer is central to the successful operation of HFHT. It is a position of leadership, requiring excellent interpersonal and team building skills, planning skills and management expertise. The CEO will work closely with the Lead Physician, who is also directly accountable to the HFHT Board, in providing shared accountability to the Board for the effective leadership of physician, interprofessional and managerial functions and the achievement of organizational excellence. The CEO will also work closely with the broader health and social services community and the physician community across the city.

As an inspirational and inclusive organizational leader, the CEO will create a cohesive and unified team across the organization and bring highly visible leadership credentials and exceptional communication and relationship building skills to the role. As a strategic thinker, the CEO will have a good understanding of the current and future needs of primary care and family medicine related to interprofessional teams, integrated models of care and improved access to care for the whole community. As an accomplished consensus builder and collaborator, the CEO will build strong partnerships and strategic alliances with other primary care providers, hospitals, and community partners.

Position Profile

The CEO will have a successful track record of seven or more years at the senior management level in health or public administration ideally within an integrated healthcare delivery model or primary care environment, and hold a graduate degree in health sciences, health or business administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The CEO will possess excellent communications, public relations and interpersonal skills as well as being able to demonstrate strong analytical and conceptual skills and an acumen for quality improvement. The CEO will be an accomplished team builder and team leader who can bring out the best in all members of the team and foster a culture of success through teamwork. The CEO will also bring strong governance experience, collaborating with and reporting to a Board of Directors. Above all, the CEO will be an individual who has a passion for excellence in the provision of high quality accessible primary care for all patients and families.
