The City of Brampton is Canada’s 9th largest city, with a population of approximately 700,000 residents. It is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, and Brampton’s growth represents 90.2% of the net population growth within the Region of Peel (between 2016 and 2021). The City of Brampton is a diverse community with 234 cultures speaking 115 languages. It is also one of Canada’s youngest cities. The City is located northwest of Toronto, within close proximity to Toronto Pearson International Airport. It is home to more than 75,000 businesses, the City’s major business clusters include manufacturing, retail and wholesale trade.

Position / Responsibilities / Requirements

The City of Brampton is recruiting a Commissioner, Public Works & Engineering to manage key areas in the Public Works and Engineering department including plans, designs, constructs and manage all assets of the City in support of service delivery to the community. This senior leadership role is responsible for providing strategic direction and advice to Council and the Chief Administrative Officer. This visionary leader will shape the strategic direction of the organization to make Brampton a future ready City. With a mandate to be a culture shaper, this leader will transform all programs and services in Public Works and Engineering to enhance the City.

The ideal candidate possesses a post-secondary education in Engineering, or equivalent and a professional designation is preferred. The ideal candidate is also a graduate of a master’s degree program as an asset. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate success developing and implementing multi-faceted strategic plans for diverse stakeholders with wide-ranging impacts. The ideal candidate has experience in motivating and leading other senior leaders, in a salaried and unionized environment.
